about

This is a collection of improvisations, sketches and demos all written and recorded in the Summer of 2019.

There’s something about the rhythm of dusk after a heat soaked summer day. The air shimmers with relief and the ground sizzles with a secret. It’s during these moments that I find myself reflecting on decisions of the heart and more often than not, praying for some kind of serenity on the decisions made and conclusions that I’ve reached.

My musical expression is, for the most part quite spontaneous. I’m not usually too fond of sitting on music for months or years at a time, something about that approach just doesn’t feel natural to me. Maybe it’s because the music is usually a reflection of a moment in time as opposed to a larger expression of time itself. The music here was all written and recorded over the course of a couple of weeks. It’s like a photo album that captures the landscape of my heart and mind over July/early August 2019. The colours, textures, feelings, melodies and chord progressions all in their own way sum up what that period gave to me.

It’s over now. And by sitting at the piano at 2am all those summer nights, I was able to reflect and work through everything I felt and experienced. Such is the power of this art form I suppose. Needless to say, the esoteric nature of creating music serves as the strangest, most difficult to comprehend and above all most effective form of therapy.

A cautionary note; don’t allow this music to trick you into coming to any conclusion about me or my life or even this summer as a whole. It’s just a collection of sounds that fell out of the air quickly over the course of a July. I wanted to collect them, pick them up off the ground and share them with you. Have you ever had a really wonderful interaction with a stranger? It lasted all of 2 minutes and then you watched them walk away and disappear into the crowd, never to see them again? The moment comes back every now and then but fundamentally, it’s over and the person is gone. Well, this music is that moment for me. Fulfilling, joyful, a little sad and for the most part, over. I’m just happy this music exists, and I’m happy that I can share it with you now. Don’t ask any questions, don’t analyse. Just put it on late at night after a hot day and become one with the moment before it ends.
